Who is Jesse Sylvia?

2012-07-19 22:47 by Olsdog / dailypkr.com

Ever since the 2012 WSOP Main Event final table was decided, lots of people within the poker community have been wondering about the chip leader, Jesse Sylvia.

Right now, Sylvia is out in front of the 9-player final table with 43,875,000 chips, which gives him a pretty nice lead over the other October Niners. With this being said, it's worth taking a closer look at Sylvia.

From Martha's Vineyard to the Bright Lights

The first thing worth mentioning about the current 2012 WSOP Main Event final table leader is that he's from Tisbury, Massachusetts, which is on the picturesque Martha's Vineyard island. And Martha's Vineyard definitely seems like a strange origin for somebody who's now living in the bright lights of Las Vegas.

As for how he made it here, Sylvia used to wait tables at various island restaurants. However, he was also grinding in online poker cash games/tournaments along the way and built a nice bankroll for himself. After collecting enough money, a major lifestyle change was in order for the former waiter.

A New Career

A couple of years ago, Jesse Sylvia made the big decision to move to Las Vegas so that he could compete in live cash games too. So far the decision has been a great one because he's made a nice living through $10/$20 NL Hold'em. Of course, everything has also led up to him making the 2012 Main Event final table, which makes the 26-year-old's move to Sin City seem like an even better choice.

The lowest amount of money that Sylvia will receive is $754,798 (ninth place) - although he's likely only focusing on the $8.5 million top prize, and he has the best chance at it too!
