Joe Sebok signed? What is WPT Thinking?

In what could be one of the most questionable poker signings in history, rumor has is that Joe Sebok inked a deal to represent the World Poker Tour. Many people from around the poker community are scratching their heads as to why the WPT would sign such a controversial figure.
Now it's worth saying right away that Sebok isn't Russ Hamilton - who admitted to directly being involved in the UB Poker scandal. However, Sebok still draws hate for his representation of UB before they went down with over $20 million in player deposits.
Sure it's no crime to merely represent a poker room - no matter how crooked they may be. But what irks people is how the Californian acted as if he was going to single-handedly clean UB up and expose any fraudulent activity within the site.
Instead, it seems as if he merely got rich off of the UB Poker sponsorship deal and did nothing in the way of exposing anybody. Some people even allege that Sebok took money from the crooked poker site in exchange for not blowing the whistle on them.

Noted poker pro Isaac Haxton explained the circumstances best on TwoPlusTwo when he wrote the following:
It's not like he was an investigative journalist who tried his best to dig up a story and failed. He was a paid representative of UB, spun that role as some sort of "I'm gonna get to the bottom of this!" bullsh**, learned nothing, and then turned around and assured people that it was safe to play on UB.
The people who believed him lost every dime they had on the site when the sh** hit the fan. He continues to tweet about his awesome life and his sweet house on Hermosa Beach that he pays for with money UB stole and gave to him to tell people they weren't crooks. He's never even made a proper public apology or admitted his role in helping UB rob more people."
If anything, he doesn't get enough hate. The fact that poker related businesses continue to pay him money to use his name in association with their products is mind-blowing.
Haxton isn't the only person who's outraged about the possible Sebok signing since a number of other people on TwoPlusTwo have expressed anger over the deal. Some players are even prepared to boycott WPT events this year because they're so unhappy with the poker tournament organization.
And you can't blame people for being angry if the Joe Sebok deal is indeed true. After all, some players lost thousands or even millions of dollars when UB Poker went down. And anybody who tried to assure players that it was okay to play there is obviously not going to be popular.
