Why did Carbon Poker really get rid of their Bad Beat Jackpot Tables?

The latest big news in the online poker industry revolves around Carbon Poker/Merge Gaming's decision to get rid of their bad beat jackpot tables. BBJ tables were wildly popular among recreational players because of the opportunity to win a massive payout just for being dealt into a BBJ hand.
But as we reported before, Carbon felt that they could improve their room from an overall standpoint by getting rid of the bad beat jackpot tables.
As CarbonRyan said in our original news article, "This change is to ensure a healthier poker room ecology, while providing players with a better ring game selection and increased players at the stakes the BBJ tables use to be."
At first glance, people might think that the move is designed to funnel recreational players to regular tables - where semi-pros and professionals will be waiting to take their money.
However, the truth is that Carbon Poker and the entire Merge Gaming network wants to prolong recreational player bankrolls by bringing them to real money tables. After all, BBJ tables charged a much higher rake in order to fund the jackpots. However, higher rake cuts down the average poker lifespan of recreational players.
Looking at this from an overall perspective, Carbon is indirectly helping amateur players while also potentially improving long-term profits for their operation.
